Fused Glass Pet Portrait Workshop: Capturing Character in Glass

Turn your beloved pet into a charming, stylized work of art inspired by simple shapes and playful expression—just like the examples shown. In this fused glass workshop, you’ll transform a favorite photo of your pet into a clean, graphic portrait using layered glass and thoughtful design.

We’ll begin by simplifying your pet’s features into bold shapes—focusing on silhouette, color blocking, and just the right details to capture personality (those ears, that nose, the unmistakable “look”). You’ll learn techniques for cutting and layering sheet glass, and how to use frit and small accents to bring your piece to life.

Each student will create one 4" x 8" fused glass pet portrait panel, which will be mounted into an 8" x 10" frame with mat for a polished, ready-to-display finish. Emphasis will be placed on clean design, strong contrast, and expressive simplicity—perfect for achieving that modern, whimsical style.

After firing, your piece will be mounted and ready to display. Please note: finished pieces are not food safe.

Prerequisites

No prior experience required.

Class Details

• Learn how to simplify a pet photo into bold glass shapes

• Instruction in glass cutting, layering, and composition

• Use of frit and small details for expression

• Finished pieces will be fused after class

• Ages 16+

• Closed-toe shoes required

• Non-synthetic clothing required (recommend jeans or cotton shirts)

• Skill Level:  Some basic cutting skills helpful.

• Ready for pickup approximately 7–10 days after class

Important: Please bring a clear printed photo of your pet (high contrast images work best). Simple backgrounds and clear headshots will give the best results.
