Open Studio is an opportunity to continue growing your glass skills and practice — and a great way to connect with other glass artists in a studio setting. These self-directed sessions give you access to tools, workspace, and kiln time to keep exploring fused glass at your own pace.

There is a lot of important information here. Please review carefully before signing up.

Prerequisites

Completion of an introductory fusing class or approval from the studio owner is required prior to participating in Open Studio. Users should have the basic glass knowledge and skills needed to work independently and complete their project. While brief assistance will be available, Open Studio is not designed as a teaching session.

Need more hands-on help? A guided Open Studio session is available for an additional fee and must be scheduled in advance.

Planning Session for New Participants

A planning session with Ebbie is required before your first Open Studio visit. Plan for approximately 30 minutes, though time may vary depending on project complexity. The planning session is billed at $50/hr.

Open Studio Details

•       Self-directed studio time in 3-hour blocks

Class Projects at Open Studio

Users already comfortable with a project from one of our classes may complete select class projects independently during Open Studio at a discounted rate — paying only for supplies (at time of session) plus standard Open Studio time, and skipping the cost of live instruction. Written handouts and instructions are provided; no live teaching is included, consistent with standard Open Studio sessions. Staff can confirm which class projects are currently available for self-guided completion.

Only Bullseye Glass

This is a Bullseye Glass (COE 90) studio. All base and structural glass brought in must be verifiably Bullseye — via COE stamp, product packaging, or proof of purchase — and approved by staff prior to the scheduled session.

Small embellishments (frit, stringers, decals, etc.) from other vendors may be permitted if the seller confirms COE 90 compatibility. Users should have documentation or listing details available for staff review before their session.

Liability: Casting Glass Stones is not responsible for cracking, shattering, kiln damage, or firing failure resulting from incompatible or unverified glass. Any damage to studio equipment caused by incompatible materials is the responsibility of the user who brought them in.

Storage & Same-Day Use

Open Studio users (non-Members) must use any glass purchased for their project within the same session. Casting Glass Stones does not offer storage for purchased glass or supplies between visits.

Studio Members with a monthly membership may store glass and supplies on-site between sessions. All stored items are left at the owner’s own risk — Casting Glass Stones is not responsible for loss, damage, or breakage of stored materials.

When a membership ends, any glass, tools, or in-progress work left in storage must be picked up within 30 days of the membership end date. Materials not retrieved within that window will be considered abandoned and become the property of Casting Glass Stones for disposal or reuse.

Liability & Abandoned Work

Casting Glass Stones is not responsible for breakage, loss, or theft of any user’s glass, supplies, or finished work left in the studio.

Completed projects not picked up within 30 days of firing will be considered abandoned and may be disposed of, donated, or repurposed at the studio’s discretion.

Studio Cleanliness

Please be considerate of others using the space. Clean your work tables, dispose of scrap glass in the proper bins, and leave your workspace as you found it. Drop-in users do not have storage — that perk is reserved for Members.

Kilns & Firing

Only staff may program and manage kilns. Staff will work closely with each Open Studio user on the firing schedule — though suggestions are never a guarantee of results. Both user and staff will sign off on the firing schedule prior to firing.

Casting Glass Stones is not responsible for outcomes of work fired per the agreed-upon schedule, regardless of result.

Costs

•       $35 — includes 3 hours of studio time, 1 firing, and use of hand tools and molds (glass not included)

•       Additional firings: $10 each. Kiln rental is billed per day; each 24-hour period counts as one firing fee.

•       Fiber paper: additional cost

•       Instructor-guided sessions: additional $50/hr (must be scheduled in advance)

 

Cancellation Policy

We understand that plans can change. Please review the following guidelines:

•       No refunds within 48 hours of the scheduled session

•       Session transfer option: cancellations may be transferred to another date or individual, provided the request is made more than 48 hours before the scheduled session

Unlimited Session Membership

$200 / month (*Breaks even on cost-per-session after just 6 visits a month — every session beyond that is free.)

Unlimited sessions, each including 3 hours of studio time, 1 firing, and use of studio hand tools and molds, plus personal storage space, 10% off glass and classes†‡, and 1 hour/month of one-on-one consult time with Ebbie.

We want your membership to be straightforward and full of great studio time. Here’s what to keep in mind:

•       Membership discounts are already priced to give you the best value we can offer — they can’t be combined with additional promotions, sales, or discount codes.

•       The class discount that comes with the Unlimited Session Membership applies to our regular class schedule. Classes taught by visiting instructors are priced independently and aren’t included in the membership discount.

•       Member storage is provided as a courtesy and is limited to space designated by studio staff. All stored items are left at the owner’s own risk — Casting Glass Stones is not responsible for loss, damage, or breakage.
