Open Studio is an opportunity to continue growing your glass skills and practice — and a great way to connect with other budding glass artists in a studio setting. These self-directed sessions give you access to tools, workspace, and kiln time to keep exploring fused glass at your own pace.

Prerequisites

Completion of Open Studio Essentials: Fused Glass Foundations or a Glass Academy class is required. Users should have the basic glass knowledge and skills needed to work independently and complete their project. While brief assistance will be available, Open Studio is not designed as a teaching session.

Need more hands-on help? A guided Open Studio session is available for an additional fee and must be scheduled in advance.

Planning Session for New Participants

Most new Open Studio participants should plan on a half-hour session with Ebbie to develop an execution plan for their project. Time may vary depending on project complexity. Ebbie will reach out directly to gather any information needed to prepare.

Open Studio Details

•     Self-directed studio time in 3-hour blocks

•     Advance registration required

•     Access to studio tools, workspace, and kiln time

•     Materials available for purchase separately, paid at time of session

•     Staff present for general support (not instruction)

•     Instructor-guided sessions available for an additional fee, booked ahead of time

Class Projects at Open Studio

Users already comfortable with a project from one of our classes may complete select class projects independently during Open Studio at a discounted rate — paying only for supplies (at time of session) plus standard Open Studio time, and skipping the cost of live instruction. Written handouts/instructions are provided; no live teaching is included, consistent with standard Open Studio sessions. Staff can confirm which class projects are currently available for self-guided completion.

Only Bullseye Glass

This is a Bullseye Glass (COE 90) studio. All base and structural glass brought in must be verifiably Bullseye — via COE stamp, product packaging, or proof of purchase — and approved by staff prior to the scheduled session.

Small embellishments (frit, stringers, decals, etc.) from other vendors may be permitted if the seller confirms COE 90 compatibility. Users should have documentation or listing details available for staff review before their session.

Liability: Casting Glass Stones is not responsible for cracking, shattering, kiln damage, or firing failure resulting from incompatible or unverified glass. Any damage to studio equipment caused by incompatible materials is the responsibility of the user who brought them in.

Storage & Same-Day Use

Open Studio users (non-Members) must use any glass purchased for their project within the same session. Casting Glass Stones does not offer storage for purchased glass or supplies between visits.

Studio Members with a monthly membership may store glass and supplies on-site between sessions. All stored items are left at the owner's own risk — Casting Glass Stones is not responsible for loss, damage, or breakage of stored materials.

Liability & Abandoned Work

Casting Glass Stones is not responsible for breakage, loss, or theft of any user's glass, supplies, or finished work left in the studio.

Completed projects not picked up within 30 days of firing will be considered abandoned and may be disposed of, donated, or repurposed at the studio's discretion.

Studio Cleanliness

Users should be considerate of others using the space. Work tables should be cleaned and scrap glass disposed of in the proper bins, with workspaces left as found. Storage of personal glass or supplies is not available (Membership Users excluded).

Kilns

Only staff may program and manage kilns. Staff will work closely with the Open Studio user on the firing schedule, though suggestions are not a guarantee of results — user and staff will both sign off on the schedule prior to firing.

Casting Glass Stones is not responsible for outcomes of work fired per the agreed-upon schedule, regardless of result.

 

Costs

•     $35 — includes 3 hours studio time, 1 firing, and use of hand tools and molds (glass not included)

•     Additional firings: $10 each. Kiln rental is billed per day; each 24-hour period counts as one firing fee.

•     Fiber paper: additional cost

•     Instructor-guided sessions: additional $50/hr

Cancellation Policy

We understand that plans can change. Please review the following guidelines:

•     No refunds within 48 hours of the scheduled session

•     Session transfer option: cancellations may be transferred to another date or individual, provided the request is made more than 48 hours before the scheduled session
